About: Black Roots Music - Blues, Jug Band, Hokum Jazz, Folk, Country. Born in Virginia, and inspired by his Southern Black heritage, Tevis started playing the blues at the early age of about 12 years old (and guitar at the age six). With a passion for Black music, Tevis is compelled to honor musical traditions of Black America. Well versed in blues idioms such as 1920s - 1940s Piedmont, Delta, Country Blues and Urban Blues. He also dips into Hokum Jazz, Jug Band and early Black folk music. Tevis will perform acoustically as a solo act, with small ensembles, or plug in and play electric (notably with his “Jr.T Blues Band”) Tevis Hodge Jr's repertoire is an eclectic mix as he seamlessly presents his own songs that can mingle with the classics and stay true to the source.
